Man violates security at Midway Airport, claims he left his phone on the plane – NBC Chicago
A man was arrested at Chicago Midway International Airport on Sunday afternoon after violating a security checkpoint, claiming he went to retrieve his cell phone, which he left on a plane when he arrived at airport, federal authorities said.
At around 2:02 p.m., the unidentified individual ran into an exit lane at the airport, claiming to have left his phone on a plane, but was ordered to stop by officers from the Transportation Security Administration, said TSA in a press release.
The man refused to comply, at which point an officer sounded a violation alarm, alerting officers at checkpoints and other law enforcement agencies in the area.
The TSA immediately removed a photo of the suspect from a security camera and distributed it to police who responded to the incident, the agency said.
A TSA agent followed the man from the moment he breached security, keeping him in sight until he reached gate A15, where officers from the Chicago Police Department have him. arrested, according to a TSA statement.
As the incident unfolded, security officials froze operations at the checkpoint, not allowing anyone to enter or exit the area out of caution.
TSA operations were delayed by about 12 minutes, authorities said.
The suspect’s name and the charges he faces were not immediately disclosed by police.
