Microsoft announces Surface Laptop Studio, Duo 2, Pro 8, Pro X, Go 3

Microsoft is announcing a new Surface Laptop Studio, along with the Surface Pro 8, Surface Go 3, Surface Pro X with Wi-Fi, and the second-generation Surface Duo smartphone.

Microsoft announced five new Surface products on Wednesday, including a laptop, three tablets and a new foldable phone.

Microsoft doesn’t make a lot of money with hardware. Only 4% of the company’s second-quarter revenue came from devices. The global PC market is dominated by Lenovo, HP, Dell and Apple, according to Gartner estimates.

While these enhancements may help keep Surface revenue growing, they’re more likely to promote the upcoming Windows 11 operating system and Office productivity apps, both of which are bigger parts of the business. from Microsoft and inspire the work of other device manufacturers.

Windows 11 will be released on October 5, and the new PCs and phones announced by Microsoft will launch at the same time. Pre-orders begin Wednesday in select markets. This means the devices are launched after the back-to-school shopping rush, but will arrive in time for the holidays.

Surface Duo 2 Phone

Finally, Microsoft announced a new Wi-Fi-only version of the Surface Pro X, a tablet first launched in 2019 with LTE cellular support. It’s the first version to come with Wi-Fi only and costs $ 900, down just $ 100 from the original model, even though it has the same chip and doesn’t feature any other noticeable hardware changes. .

But, Windows 11 will allow the device to run specific 64-bit applications through emulation. This could mean that people will be able to run more apps than they could when the first model was launched.
