New York State Police mingle with construction crews and distribute 2 dozen tickets in I-81 work area
Binghamton, NY – State police cracked down on drivers they said broke the rules in a work zone last week on Interstate 81.
Construction crews were completing construction on the bridge along I-81 in Binghamton on Thursday when “a soldier mingled with workers in the work area and monitored risky and dangerous behavior,” said state police in a press release.
The soldiers distributed more than two dozen tickets during the detail of Operation “Hard Hat”. Of the 27 tickets, 19 were for speeding; two for occupants not wearing seat belts; and six other miscellaneous notes. No tickets have been issued for drivers using cell phones, soldiers said.
“Motorists are urged to drive responsibly in construction areas,” state police said in the statement. “Please follow the posted signage. Move on a lane, when it is safe to do so or when you encounter vehicles displaying red, white, blue, amber, or green lights. Everyone who works by the road deserves to come home to their family!
