Postgraduate IT Project Placement Scholarship

a. This scholarship was created by the School of Computer Science in the Faculty of Engineering to provide postgraduate students with exceptional academic ability to spend 6 months full-time in industry, undertaking investigative projects and high-level research during their studies.
a. Applicants must have completed at least one full-time semester (24 credit points) in one of the following course programs:
I. Master of Information Technology (MIT),

III. Master in Data Science (MDS).
b. Applicants must have achieved a distinction average (a grade of 75 or above) during their previous semester of study in one of the course programs listed above.
3. Selection criteria
a. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic merit.
b. Preference will be given to candidates registered in the Data Analytics major of the Master of Information Technology or the Master of Data Science.
vs. The scholarship will be awarded on the recommendation of the Associate Dean, Indigenous Strategy and Services, Faculty of Engineering, or his designate, and a designated scholar from the School of Computer Science.
4. Value and payment
a. The scholarship is valued at $ 25,000 and is valid for the duration of the placement with the industry partner.
b. Payment will be made in two equal installments, one after 3 months of internship and one at the end of the internship.
vs. Postponement of the scholarship is not allowed and it is not transferable to another school, faculty or university.
D. The scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.
e. No other amount is payable.
5. Continuing eligibility
a. The scholarship recipient is required to remain enrolled full-time in their eligible course program.
b. The beneficiary must also register and fulfill the requirements of COMP5709 or DATA5709 while undertaking the placement.
6. Duration and timing of placement
a. The duration of the internship is 26 weeks for the period specified in the internship offer letter agreed with the student, the university and the industrial partner.
b. The Placement does not create a working relationship between the participating parties, nor does it create a future working relationship.
a. The scholarship will be terminated if the beneficiary:
I. withdraws from an eligible course or does not register,
II. withdraws from a compulsory study unit,
III. start part-time studies without prior authorization,
IV. does not comply with the University’s student placement and projects policy,
V. does not complete or meet the requirements of his placement,
VI. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including, but not limited to, providing false or misleading information in connection with their scholarship application,
VII. accepts an alternative primary scholarship, administered by the University of Sydney, for the same purposes as this scholarship. In such circumstances, this scholarship will be terminated in favor of the alternative scholarship when the alternative scholarship is of equal or greater value,
VIII. does not resume his studies after an authorized leave,
IX. begins or continues to perform paid employment that interferes with his ability to complete the internship as required, or
X. any other provision as indicated in these conditions which would result in termination.
b. Once the scholarship is over, it will not be reinstated, except in the event of an error by the University.
vs. When the student withdraws from the internship or the scholarship is terminated by the University or the grantor, the student is required to repay scholarship funds already paid for the period following the date of withdrawal / termination. The value to be reimbursed will be calculated on the basis of the number of days paid minus the number of days of participation in the placement.
D. When a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or the scholarship is terminated under the termination clause of these general conditions, the University reserves the right to request reimbursement of scholarship funds paid to the beneficiary of the stock market.
8. Confidentiality, intellectual property and insurance
a. These elements will be addressed in the corresponding survey on student actions.
