VEON partners with Astrum IT Academy to deliver IT training in Uzbekistan
AMSTERDAM, November 9, 2021 / PRNewswire / – VEON Ltd. (NASDAQ: VEON) (Euronext Amsterdam: VEON), one of the world’s leading providers of connectivity and internet services, has signed a memorandum of understanding to become an official partner of Bilim Tech, a leading ed -tech company in Uzbekistan, to launch the Astrum IT Academy, a new higher education institute based in the Tashkent Region.
The Academy will be built as part of a government initiative of Uzbekistan and train 2,000 computer science students per year with a focus on AI software programming, big data analysis and software engineering. The Astrum IT Academy is an essential component of uzbekistan Digital 2030 Agenda which seeks to initiate technology-driven economic growth in the country.
VEON will support the Astrum IT Academy through educational services where VEON’s leading IT experts will give lectures and conduct courses for students. VEON will also help students develop advanced computer skills by engaging in real-world AI and Big Data projects. Educational programs will include the development of solutions based on anonymized data and live telecommunications data sets under the supervision of senior engineers from VEON.
Students of the academy will also benefit from internships in Beeline Uzbekistan and the opportunity to work in other operating companies of VEON. The new Astrum partnership follows on from VEON’s existing engagement with education in Uzbekistan, where Beeline Uzbekistan provides equipment and support to secondary schools.

In collaboration with VEON, the Astrum IT Academy will train 400 students from each group over a three-year program. All students will have access to the latest technology and will be taught in a specially designed facility. Each cohort will be split between a specialization in AI software programming and big data analytics courses, with top-performing students being offered internships and long-term jobs by VEON, with up to 10% going are expected to join the company in the coming years.
